AFTRS Advanced Voice Course this month

Applications are still open for the AFTRS Advanced Voice Technique Course being held this month.

This two day workshop for experienced Radio Announcers and Voice Artists is designed as an inservice skills upgrade for people already working professionally with their voice. It will be run on the weekend of Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 May.

It is the next step up from the regular introductory level Voiceover Course run regularly at AFTRS.

Course participants will learn:

How the voice works, including anatomy of the voice box, the physiology and general principles of vocal function.


How to look after the voice, including risk factors for poor vocal performance, risk factors specific to the radio announcer and voice artist, tips for maintaining vocal health and the importance of warm ups.


Techniques that maximise efficiency and expression in vocal performance and ensure optimal vocal health.


Participants of the course will already have radio experience or alternatively significant TV or voice over experience.

The Course Lecturer Cate Madill is a qualified Speech Pathologist and voice specialist.

Madill has an established private practice in Sydney specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of voice disorders and voice technique for professional voice users including actors, singers and teachers.

Originally trained as an actor, Madill worked in front of the lights and as a voice coach before undertaking her degree in speech pathology. She has been a voice consultant for AFTRS for the last three years.
