AFTRS Graduate Diploma in Radio graduate Sam Maloney starts new role at Power FM

AFTRS Graduate Diploma Radio graduate Sam Maloney is the new full-time Workday Announcer and Promotions Manager for ARN Regional station, Power FM Muswellbrook.

Sam has been working with the team at Wave FM Wollongong since March this year, following his graduation from the Australian Film Televiaion and Radio School (AFTRS).

General Manager of ARN Regional, Joel Gosper, says, “As a media company, we are constantly focused on delivering the best service for the local community. To achieve this, we look to employ like-minded people who share this passion, which Sam has for the audio industry. Assisting Sam to begin his career with ARN has been a rewarding experience that will benefit the local Hunter Valley audience.”

AFTRS Head of Radio, Fyona Smith, says, “Before AFTRS, Sam studied with NSW TAFE on my advice to assist in preparing for post-graduate study. Working in the dynamic commercial radio industry radio has been Sam’s dream. It’s wonderful to see Sam start his first professional role.”

Sam says, “My time with AFTRS was amazing as it taught me to push myself from my comfort zone. I am so glad I studied at AFTRS because it’s given me the tools I need to work within the radio industry. I can’t believe I have my first full-time job is in the Hunter Valley on Power FM!”

Ms Smith said AFTRS’ ongoing collaborative relationship with ARN Regional is an example of the School working with industry to benefit students and provide career opportunities.

Joel Gosper is an AFTRS graduate and ARN’s NSW, VIC, & SA Content Director Barry Keohane is a regular guest lecturer at the School.

Barry and Group Content Director ARN Regional, Ryan Rathbone, have also have participated in AFTRS’ industry advisory panels.

AFTRS is currently accepting applications for the 2023 intake of its Graduate Diplima in Radio and Podcasting program and is offering an impressive range of scholarships to support students through their studies.

The course is offered in person, full-time over one year, or part-time over two years for students opting to study remotely from anywhere in Australia.
