Alan Jones signs off after 35 years behind the mic

Alan Jones has signed off from 2GB after dominating Sydney radio for over three decades.

He thanked his listeners and supposrt staff as well as station management, and above all his loyal radio family telling them “My listeners have been wonderful. The program is nothing more really than a great big family.”

Alan signed off by quoting a poem from Robert Lee Shaft, called Bag of Tools

Isn’t it strange, that princes and kings,
and clowns that caper in sawdust rings,
and common pepole like you and me,
are builders for eternity?

Each is given a bag of tools,

a shapeless mass, a Book of Rules;
and each must make ‘ere time has flown,
a stumbling block or a stepping stone.

How did it all start? See our story about Alan Jones’ first two weeks in radio here.
