Alan Jones presents his final program on Sky News tonight

Alan Jones has decided against a new role offered to him at Sky News for the coming year, and will depart at the end of his program beginning at 8pm tonight.

radioinfo understands Mr Jones was offered a one hour program on Sky’s new streaming service, but not on the traditional Foxtel platform.

He has been a part of the Sky News stable since 2013 when he joined to co-host the political discussion program Richo + Jones alongside Graham Richardson.

Next came Jones & Co in 2016 before he began hosting the Alan Jones program in July 2020 following his departure from 2GB.

CEO of Sky News Australia, Paul Whittaker, says, “Regrettably Alan has decided not to accept a new role that was offered to him for next year. We respect his decision and know he will be missed by many”.

“Alan has contributed greatly to Sky News Australia over the years, advocating without fear or favour on the issues important to many Australians.

“His compelling commentary and views on the national debate have seen him become one of the country’s most successful and influential broadcasters for close to four decades.

“I’d like to thank Alan for his commendable dedication and service to Sky News. We wish him well.”

Jones released this statement on his social media feed, acknowledging the “prerogative of the employer” not to renew his contract, but pointing out that the day he was meeting with management his program won its timeslot.

On news of Jones’ contract ending, journalist Hugh Riminton told two stories about Jones and Kerry Packer.
