And down came the rain for 2RRR

2RRR’s Queen of Country, Leonie McClure, knows that thoughts about the ongoing drought make a lot of people feel powerless to help, but still they want to do something, anything and so feeling that desperate times needed desperate measures, she decided she’d try a straightforward plea.

Last Saturday, 5 October, Leonie, took to the airwaves with her popular county music program, My Kind of Country, to “make it rain”, and dedicated her seven-hour broadcast from 3AM to 10AM to songs about rain.

And the rains did come, as did the calls and messages to the studio from all over Australia. “It’s raining in Parkes” from one caller, “Pouring in Jervis Bay” from another, and as anyone who was in Sydney knows, last Saturday the city copped a downpour.

Leonie says, “There was nothing like getting all those calls and posts, telling me it was raining in some parched areas. The community spirit was so passionate. Who knows, maybe the power of positive thinking works?”
