Celebrating 90 years of broadcasting this year, the 2TM team of Sharnae Birkett, Jon Wolfe and Dan Saunders have wrapped up their coverage of the 53rd Tamworth Country Music Festival, conducting 165 interviews with some of Australia’s favourite country music singers and songwriters and broadcasting live from the Golden Guitar Awards, including the Red Carpet arrivals.
2TM also presented during the festival its third annual 2TM Discovered Quest with the aim of discovering new talent. A Tamworth local Cody Walker was this year chosen the winner by the panel of guest judges consisting of country music stars Taylor Moss, Zac & George and Jimbo Stokes. The Encouragement Award was given to Lily-Grace Grant of the Northern Rivers region, NSW. As this year’s winner Cody received the prestigious 2TM Discovered Trophy, $500 spending money at Centrepoint Tamworth and interviews and airplay on 2TM across the coming 12 months. The judges noted that the competition and talent showcased by all Top 5 Finalists was outstanding.
For those unable to attend 2TM this year shared some of the 165 interviews on the station’s new look website, 2tm.com.au; plus highlights from 2TM Discovered and The Lounges Plus Live Lounge on the 2TM YouTube channel.
It is estimated, across the 10 days of the festival, that 300,000 people visited Tamworth watching more than 700 performers in free and ticketed events. Tamworth Regional Council has said it was the biggest and most successful in recent years.
Now the Festival is over for another year 2TM has returned to regular programming with country music still a feature in programs like The Country Mile, every Saturday from 6am to 10am, featuring Australian and overseas country music and interviews.
