While its unlikely Queenslanders will hear Taylor Swift in the Hottest 100 this Australia Day, they can find her on B105 as they celebrate Aus-Taylor-Day.
The station promises to “unashamedly playing Tay Tay hits and features across the day and filling in the blank space at listeners’ parties with slip ‘n’ slides.”
The programming choice is a clear response to controversy surrounding whether or not Swift will be included in triple j’s Hottest 100, with Angela Catterns recently announcing that the song was disqualified due to its endorsement by KFC.
“You don’t need to pull a ‘swifty’ to get her songs played on our station.” said a tongue-in-cheek spokesperson for B105 in a media statement.
Meanwhile, B105 is about to celebrate its 25th birthday and a reunion of former staff is planned, with Austereo founder Paul Thompson expected to attend.
On February 26th, 1990 at 3.40 PM, the late Wayne Goss switched on B105 FM and the history of Brisbane radio changed forever. Now 25 years on, anyone who has worked or is currently working for B105 is welcome to the birthday party:
