Austereo and mcm entertainment go their own ways

After a ten year business relationship, radio production and syndication company “mcm entertainment” has separated from the Austereo Group.

This follows a shareholder buy-out of Austereo’s 50% share in the company. The shareholders are headed by Michael Gudinski and mcm founder Tony McGinn who started the company in 1983. Austereo bought into mcm in 1995 just before merging with the Triple M network.

mcm produces feature music programs including Take 40 Australia and Planet Rock Evolution, which air on over 160 radio stations around Australia, including Austereo branded stations.

McGinn said it’s business as usual for the two companies. “Nothing changes at all. Normally when two parties join into one business, whatever they put into it they can take out once they leave. Under our agreement everything stays the same.”

“When we went into the agreement, radio broadcasting was a very different industry. Austereo had a domination over other radio players. It was a very powerful thing having a client like that on board – but it’s great being truly independent again.”

Austereo will continue to run mcm syndicated programs.
