Austereo remains silent amid noise surrounding Hamish and Andy’s future

Speculation that Hamish and Andy will not renew their contract with Austereo at the end of this year is increasing. Our sources tell us that the pair have been in London pitching to the BBC.

radioinfo’s BBC source says they are “doing the big sell” in London at the moment during the holiday break following the end of their Caravan of Courage tour of Great Britain and Ireland.

Hamish and Andy, with their Aussie agent, met with BBC bosses Lewis Carnie and Bob Shennan this week before returning home to go back on air after the ratings break.

The pair also turned up as guests on various London radio programs including The BBC’s Graham Norton show, and Absolute Radio’s Christian O’Connell breakfast show.

With their recent exposure on the TEN Network’s 7pm Project, there’s little doubt that local TV executives are beating a path to the duo’s doors.

Meanwhile, 2Day content director Derek Bargwanna has not returned any of radioinfo’s calls on the subject.

London has been a favourite destination for Aussie radio people during this year’s mid year ratings break. Alan Jones was there to watch his horse run at Ascot and Jono Coleman presented some awards at the London Radio Awards ceremony (see other story). Hamish and Andy may have decided they like it so much they may want to live there for a while.
