6PR breakfast co-host Basil Zempilas will leave the station next month after a directive from his main employer Seven West Media.
After its sale by Macquarie Media, 6PR is now owned by Seven’s rival, Nine Entertainment, resulting in a conflict for Zempalis.
Basil Zempilas is also standing for the position of Perth Mayor, which would give him an additional workload and a possible conflict of interest with a news/talk station, if he wins the position in this weekend’s election.
6PR Content Manager Emily White has told radioinfo: “Baz will finish at the end of the year and leaves with our best wishes. We’re considering a number of options for the breakfast show in what’s shaping as an exciting 2021 for 6PR.”
Zempilas told the WAToday he is proud of the achievements of the Breakfast team: “I’ve had an unbelievable time at 6PR and have been very proud of our successes and my partnership with Steve Mills. I will miss being a part of 6PR Breakfast very much.”
There is speculation Zempilas, a former WAAFL player, may still be heard on radio, perhaps on Mix 94.5, but there has been no confirmation of the rumour.
Realted report: 6PR’s Basil Zempilas carries a copy of the radio ratings around with him
