Bedrooms to Boardrooms is on air therapy: Byron Webb

As reported a few weeks ago here on radioinfo, Mix 106.5 in Sydney has begun a new show called Bedrooms to Boardrooms on Sunday nights between 10pm and midnight.

The new show is hosted by former The Edge 96.1 breakfast presenter, Byron Webb, who spoke to radioinfo about the show now that it has been on air for four weeks:

“Essentially, the show is on air therapy. We deal with all of life’s issues from the bedroom to the boardroom.

“With so much pressure on people in every part of their daily life, this is a voyeuristic journey into other people’s lives, dealing with issues we all can relate to.”

Psychotherapists, Jacquie Furey and Stephen Carroll, provide expert advice on the show, which still also contains “six or seven songs per hour” as well as its talkback content.

Webb describes the show as “a bit like Father Jim meets Dr Feelgood.”

He says the specialist guests are “educated poms with a typical British sense of humour, who can also tackle the serious stuff as well.”

Callers have so far discussed topics as diverse as relationship counselling to approaching your boss for a pay rise.

radioinfo: Is this a format departure for a music station?

Webb “Yes it is in one way, but it fits in with the Mix brand very well. There’s nothing like it on the Sydney radio dial. Our PD, Sam Zniber, has told me that it’s an extension of the lifestyle brand of Mix 106.5 and that’s what we’re trying to achieve.”

radioinfo: Will it go national eventually like Richard Mercer?

Webb: “I can’t comment on that – it’s only four weeks into the show. We’d like it to become a ‘must listen to’ type of show in preparation for people to get their life back in order before they return to the rat race on Monday morning, and have a laugh too. That’s what we’re aiming for at this time.”

Byron Webb also does weekend breakfast for Mix 101.1 Melbourne and other shifts for the ARN network.
