Award-winning TV host and comedian Ben Murphy has officially joined the ABC as its new regional Breakfast radio host in Mildura and Swan Hill.
Murphy has already landed some memorable interviews with the likes of Miriam Margolyes, Pete Murray, Dave Hughes, Peking Duk Conrad Sewell and Shaun Micallef.
“I’m not sure why the publicists always say they love talking to me,” Murphy laughs. “I think it’s because I genuinely am a fan of talented people and love hearing their stories. They sense that and feel safe knowing I’m not after a gotcha moment.”
Murphy says his chats aren’t overly scripted, just researched heavily.
“That way, I can let the guest go off on a tangent, and follow them there, gently guiding them back if I need to. I ask the questions I think the listener would be asking in that moment too.”
Listeners have responded in kind, with strong online engagement reflected through a growing number of texts to the show.
