The people you run into at the servo

2SM News Director and Breakfast Newsreader Dianne Coveny-Garland was filling her car up in Balmain when she looked over and saw a very familiar face.

The legendary broadcaster Ian MacRae was also buying petrol. In a lovely touch of serendipity Dianne was producer for Ian when he did the night show at 2UW in Neutral Bay in the early 1990s. They would also work together briefly when she moved from 2RE Taree, to 2SM 25-years ago this month:

Ian took 2SM to the top of the ratings, as breakfast announcer in the 70s. He was also responsible for one of the best April Fools jokes ever. If by chance you don’t know about the jumbo that went under the Sydney Harbour Bridge you can listen to Ian chatting about it with Chris Smith again on 2SM on April Fools Day this year:

The newsreader and legendary broadcaster had a brief catchup at the service station,  before snapping a photo together.
