Benchwarmers and Thirsty Merc attempt Aussie first for album launch

Southern Cross Media’s Benchwarmers, Adam and Joe, are today flying down the east coast of Australia to launch Thirsty Merc’s new album Mousetrap Heart in a world record attempt for the most markets visited in a single day of promotion.

After discovering that their friends Thirsty Merc had no plans to launch their upcoming album, The Benchwarmers and Thirsty Merc put the call out to their listeners for the best launch idea, with an huge number of responses coming in both on-air and online.

Benchwarmer Adam Lavelle has told radioinfo: “There was no way we could allow our friends from Thirsty Merc to let this occasion and all their hard work pass without a fitting celebration.”

Of all the launch proposals from listeners, one concept stood out above the rest, a listener’s challenge to fly to as many radio markets as possible in a single day of promotions to play their music to local fans.

“It’s an absolutely crazy idea… We loved it from the moment we heard it,” says the other Benchwarmer, Joe Gleeson.

Starting in Cairns at 4.30am this morning, The Benchwarmers and Thirsty Merc will fly down the Eastern seaboard, landing in each region to play an acoustic version of their title track Mousetrap Heart, and to meet with one lucky fan at each stop for a photo opportunity and album signing.

Adam Lavelle is excited by the prospect of taking the band’s live music to so many supporters and tackling a world record in a single day:

“When we put the call out to listeners to help us launch Mousetrap Heart we honestly had no idea what to expect. Now that we’ve been challenged, we’re going all-out to jump on the plane with Thirsty Merc, and to take Mousetrap Heart to as many of their fans and listeners as possible in a single day. We can’t wait!”

Travelling through Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton, the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Central Coast, Wagga Wagga, Albury and Bendigo, the one-day Mousetrap Heart challenge will be a first across Australia and the Southern Cross Network, and promises to be an album launch never to forget.
