Peter Berner debuted his new weekend show on 2UE on Saturday with veteran broadcaster David Prior as co-host. If UE was hoping to boost ratings on the back of Berner’s television profile and previous stints on Triple M, the plan had no effect with his second caller June who rang to talk to gardening expert Judy Horton.

Berner bravely chose to include comments about Gina Rhinehart in his opening monlogue – perhaps unaware of the controversy stirred up by his breakfast host colleague, Jason Morrison. But while Morrison’s comments were deadly serious, Berner’s were delivered with his trade-mark light-hearted charm, unlikley to earn him rebuke from the powers that be.

Peter Berner will be heard each Saturday and Sunday following George and Paul at 2pm-6pm. He has taken over the shift vacated by Stuart Bocking who has moved into mornings Monday Friday while David Oldfield took over nights to do battle Steve Price on 2GB.
