Nova’s Bianca Dye has met many big stars in her time so she doesn’t usually get flustered when she has to interview them. But her recent encounter with Madonna in Tokyo had her worried at first.
She has told radioinfo about the experience:
All I could think about was “What in God’s name do I ask the biggest star in the world.” Madonna doesn’t take any crap so I’d better be good! I don’t normally get nervous, I mean I do this for a living right? Between Radio & TV, I’ve interviewed Robbie Williams, Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe, blah, blah, blah, so when I’d had my 10th spray of my Bach’s Rescue Remedy, I knew I had to calm down.
What does a nervous girl who is about to interview an international icon do? She gets a blow-dry & a chardy of course! And not necessarily in that order. The chardonnay worked a treat and I was able to seriously think about what I’d ask her.
The other media were also a tad nervous because Molly Meldrum was interviewing her first and since he had first interviewed her 21 years ago for Countdown, they were like old ‘buddies n stuff”, so we were all paranoid Molly would chat to her for ages and leave us with no time at all with her. (It didn’t happen – we all stuck to our 15 minutes).
I kept thinking, I have to get a chance to tell her about my “Express Yourself” story. The one where I broke up with a guy after listening to the lyrics of that song over and over “Don’t go for second best baby – put your love to the test…” I wasn’t sure if Mads would care or not, but she laughed so hard when I told her and said “My God – I don’t wanna be a homewrecker!!!”
She may be a Mum but what a ‘bod’ at 47! When I asked her about her butt, you know the one “we could crack an egg on” and how us mere mortals could go about obtaining one, she said “well ya gotta get moving – and lots of walking uphill on a treadmill.” (Yep sure – maybe tomorrow, Madonna).
I also had to ask her if she pranced around the house in THAT leotard for hubby Guy Ritchie?” She looked at me coyly, smiled and leaned in to me and whispered…. “Umm… nooooooooo but he does like me to walk around the house in my underwear!!!” Gee, and I’d imagine that Mads would look just sooo bad in her undies don’t you!?!
The most surprising thing me for me after growing up watching Madonna being a man-eater and having such a strong sense of who she is, it was refreshing to see her softer side – she was really mellow actually & lovely! Especially when I asked her about things like her kids and what kind of people she wanted them to grow up to be. You’d see her face soften and the man-eater melts away. “ I want my kids to start being good people by cleaning up their rooms!” My God, Mads has domestic issues just like the rest of us…but probably with more maids than you and I have.
