Big issues at this week’s Community Broadcasting Conference

The Community Broadcasting sector’s annual conference will take place this week in Adelaide, beginning Thursday. With many crucial issues on the agenda, such as licence renewals and what approach community broadcasters will take on digital radio, the conference will be an important one for the future development of Australia’s community radio and tv sectors.

The program includes a training day on Thursday with welcome drinks that evening.

On Friday the Minister for Volunteers in South Australia, Jennifer Rankine will open the conference, which will feature sessions on sponsorship, Women In Community Broadcasting, Adobe Audition for beginners and community broadcasting futures. The afternoon will include a ‘Great Debate’ with the topic Is Radio Dead?

On Saturday a major session entitled ‘Australian Community Broadcasting Audiences Talk Back’ will outline a two-year qualitative study of audience responses to community radio and community television. More than 50 community radio and TV stations around the nation have taken part in the study. The session presents the key findings of
this two-year study which has offered some important reinforcement for many aspects of the sector and also suggests what audiences see as the way forward for community broadcasting in Australia.

The CBAA’s annual general meeting will be held on the Sunday.
