Branding, staffing and relocation on the agenda at merged Austereo

Five weeks since the merger of Southern Cross Media and Austereo the company is moving quickly to confirm key positions (see our movements section). CEO Rhys Holleran thanked staff for their cooperation in a memo this week, saying “I have been thrilled with everyone’s attitude towards this exciting new marriage of two great companies. The courtesy and generosity all staff have shown me and my team has been appreciated.”

Holleran told radioinfo in an earlier interview that previous merger lessons learnt included “don’t stuff up anyone’s pay,” so in this week’s memo he explained that a lot of work has been done on basic issues like emails, payrolls and intranet sites.

“We already have common access to email and we will all be on a common IT platform in the next week… there are no immediate plans to change the frequency of pays, we will eventually bring the group to a common position sometime in the future and we promise any changes will be flagged with plenty of notice.”

The company plans to relocate staff to one location where it has two. National sales from the regional business will move into the metro operations, and Adelaide and Perth relocations will take place in the second half of this year.

The new company intends to “maintain the strength of the Austereo brand,” but no new name has yet been announced for the overall company structure. Firm details about a name are expected to be known by the end of June.

The memo also confirmed the key role Austereo’s Peter Harvie will still play in the company during the transition.
