Brian Henderson’s radio career featured on 2RRR

UPDATED 5 August 2021: Brian Henderson has passed away today.

Brian Henderson is very well known as the respected newsreader at Channel 9 for 46 years from 1957 to 2002, and as the host of Bandstand from 1958 to 1972.

But what is less known is that he had a 20-year career in radio before that, as well as during the early days of his career on television.

Older listeners will remember him as the 2CH breakfast presenter from 1953 to 1956, on 2UE during the days of the Top 40, and then on 2GB until 1966.

And even before that, in the late 1940s he was the youngest announcer on radio in New Zealand.

Brian Crabbe will trace Brian Henderson’s radio career, and more, in his series on ‘Music Presenters on Sydney Radio in the 1940s, 50s and 60s’, on Ryde/Hunters Hill community radio station 2RRR 88.5 FM, or on the web at 2rrr.org.au, at 3pm on Tuesday, 20th July and repeated at 11am on Friday, 23rd July.
