ABC Radio will provide coverage of the upcoming Paris Olympics in conjunction with the Nine Network across various capital city and regional stations from Friday July 26, with some beloved commentators returning to be involved.
Bruce McAvaney OAM will headline the ABC’s commentary team for his 11th Olympics bringing his experience, passion and the iconic voice behind Australian winning moments like Cathy Freeman’s gold medal 400m sprint at the Sydney’s Olympics.
McAvaney said:
“I’ve always thought the Olympics is the ultimate event for an Australian sports broadcaster and to be given this opportunity by the ABC means a great deal to me.
These games will be as exciting as any. We have a 75-strong athletics team – our biggest we’ve ever sent overseas – and I’m very optimistic they’re ready to achieve great things.”
