Buck off Triple J, joins ABC702

After 11 years on triple j, Robbie Buck has been named as the new host of the 702 ABC Sydney evening show. He will also be heard in Canberra on 666 ABC and throughout NSW on the Local Radio statewide.

Buck has co-hosted triple j breakfast with Marieke and The Doctor, since January 2008. He previously presented weekday lunch, the Top Shelf drive shift and weekend breakfast. He was creator and host of the Australian music show Home & Hosed.

Honour Roll mentions for Robbie Buck include the famous awkward phone interview with Ben Harper on Top Shelf, which ended happily with a harmonious resolution in person, and the ‘Throwing Stuff at Robbie Buck’ segment on triple j TV. He hosted the Hottest 100 Of All Time both in 1998 and 2009.

Buck’s huge popularity with the triple j audience was confirmed at ‘Robbie Buck’s Party’ in 2008 that saw hundreds of fans in Perth turn up in Robbie Buck masks to help celebrate his impending marriage.

The triple j team congratulates Buck on the new gig but say they are “sad to see him leave.” His contribution to the network and to the music scene through his time at triple j is something recognised not just by the ABC, but by the industry too.

ABC Director Radio Kate Dundas has told radioinfo: “Robbie is one of the smartest, funniest and nicest people in broadcasting today. triple j audiences love him for his music knowledge and bands respect him for his commitment to the Australian music industry.

“ABC Radio is proud to be able to keep someone of Robbie’s talent in the organisation for our ABC Local Radio audiences to enjoy.”

triple j will reveal its plans for the 2010 Breakfast show later in the year.

Buck will begin on ABC702 in January 2010.
