It went like this. An expert archer was to fire ten arrows past Merrick Watts into a cardboard cut out of his head. Merrick’s task was to try to catch one in his bare hands as it whizzed past and SCA staff cheered on. We’re not sure whether they cheered for Merrick to catch an arrow or for an arrow to miss the cardboard version of his head. Either way, he caught the ninth to rapturous applause.

School teacher Anthony Kelly from Armidale in NSW, a guy known for having the fastest reflexes on the planet, was Merrick’s inspiration to try it for himself. Anthony has broken multiple World Records including catching arrows blindfolded, catching spears from a spear gun underwater, catching paintballs blindfolded and throwing the most punches in one minute.

Going live to air on Merrick & The Highway Patrol, and streamed live on www.triplem.com.au Merrick geared up in a karate outfit as arrows were fired at him.
