Carlton backs Laws on 2UE promotional spending

Holidaying 2UE breakfast presenter, Mike Carlton, has backed John Laws’ view that more promotion is needed at 2UE.

In an internal memo sent to all staff, Carlton endorses comments made by Laws to The Sunday Telegraph (reported earlier on radioinfo).

In his memo, he says:

We have a fine radio station to be proud of , with good product and talented people, both on-air and off. Programs, News, Sales, Production, Engineering, the lot – in 40 years I have not worked with a better bunch of people.

Given the proper support from Southern Cross, we could produce the ratings results we all so earnestly desire.

Sadly and inexplicably, that support has not happened.

Our advertising and marketing is confined to a bus stop poster at the front door. But I hope that John’s outspoken comments might provoke serious thought down south.

Lesson 101 in radio: you have to spend money to make it.
