Carrie Bickmore to take some more time off to deal with vocal cord issues

Carrie Bickmore had been absent from her high rating Hit Network Drive program she hosts alongside Tommy Little before her return this afternoon. But, it will be just for ‘one night only’ as Carrie takes further time off to deal with vocal cords that are ‘in a very bad way’, so much so that she ran the risk of permanent damage without treatment.

Loren Barry, from the network night program, The Hot Hits, has been looking after things admirably but, with Carrie popping up last weekend having organised a surprise birthday party for another SCA colleague and close friend Fifi Box, Carrie, the Victorian Australian of the Year nominee for her many charitable endeavours, knows she needs to look after herself now.

Carrie told Tommy and listeners she had visited an ENT specialist that morning and admitted that she was struggling with the prospect of stepping away from a job she loves and letting anybody down.

Carrie: “My voice hasn’t been right for some time. I went to the ENT and it’s in a very bad way… as you can hear! Things are not good, so I’m going to have to take some time off work to get it fixed. If I don’t get it fixed now, they [vocal cords] will be permanently damaged, which will be very unfortunate for my job”

Tommy: “We need you at full strength, Bickers, you’ll be right”

Carrie: “It’s making me upset. I’ll be fine, sorry… I don’t know why it’s making me so upset. I just don’t like letting people down and I don’t like letting myself down. I also really love my job and don’t want to be forced not to never do it again! I’m taking a little bit of time off to get it fixed. I don’t know when I’ll be back. I’m hoping that if I get onto it now, it will be a non-permanent thing.”

Tommy: “We just want you healthy and back to 100%, Carrie.”

Wishing you rest and a speedy recovery Carrie and looking forward to hearing you again soon.
