Thanks for sharing my Petition guys I appreciate it! :) Hopefully we can get PSN to change their minds!
While I sympathise with the petitioner about disappearance of "Classic Rock" 1377 (formerly 3MP (1970s-2010), formerly MTR (2010-2012), formerly Classic Rock (2012-2018), and now SEN+) it is the licensee of the 3MP frequency who is the risk bearer not the petitioner. It is the board of directors through management who decided to make the 1377 another sports talk format and if the format does not succeed, it is their responsibility.
SEN+ will only survive if the revenues exceed expenses, preferably if SEN+ is self funded through its advertising rather than being fed cash by its parent company.
Even if revenues exceeded expenses, which of either "Classic Rock" or SEN+ gives greater returns? Despite a talk format being more labour-intensive than a music station, if there is sufficient support in the market for another talk format and it is more profitable than "Classic Rock", it is what the market wants. On the other hand, if the market does not support SEN+ but "Classic Rock" gives a high return for the available advertising revenue, then "Classic Rock" may come back. Remember the responsibility falls on the board of directors and management who bear the risk, not the petitioner.
For the petitioner whose scientist brother-in-law depends on the music produced by "Classic Rock" to stimulate his creative research juices, may I suggest other sources of "Classic Rock". The list is not exhaustive: (i) buy classic rock CDs and store backups on the computer or mp3 player, (ii) buy classic rock songs on iTunes and store on mp3 player, (iii) subscribe to Spotify, (iv) find online a radio station streaming a classic rock stream and finally (v) MMM has a number of supplementary DAB stations, one of them being MMM Classic. Plenty of choices.
