Cornesy resigns from FIVEaa

FIVEaa afternoon presenter Graham Cornes quit yesterday and will be replaced by former Crows captain Chris McDermott.

Cornesy had been in talks with station management about shift changes and it is believed the talks were not acceptable to the 23 year veteran of FIVEaa’s lineup. His contract was up for renewal later this year.

His on air partnership with KG, in the KG and Cornesy show, was a successful format for 14 years on the station until KG retired in 2008. Since Ken ‘KG’ Cunningham left, he has presented the drive show with Steve Rowe.

Cornes was a champion with the Glenelg Football Club in the SANFL, between 1967 and 1982. Represented South Australia 21 times, including captain 1978. He was selected in the All Australian team in 1979 and 1980, winning the Tassie Medal in 1980 and the Simpson Medal in 1979.

In 1991 Cornes was appointed the inaugural coach of the Adelaide Football Club in their first year in the AFL. He guided the Crows to their first finals appearance in 1993.

FIVEaa general manager Sean O’Brien told the Adelaide Advertiser he hopes Cornes will remain with the station part-time. “Graham and I have been chatting about his future moving forward for the last month or so and he has decided he would now like to change his work-life balance to include more of the `life’ part.”
