Danny Lakey is joining Maz Compton for a new look Hit NSW Breakfast show from January 17, 2022.
Lakey will replace Daniel ‘Gawndy’ Gawned who announced in October that he would be leaving the breakfast program at the end of this year.
Hit NSW Breakfast with Maz & Lakey will see Lakey promoted to the new Breakfast role with the Hit Network from his most recent gig, The Danny Lakey Show on Triple M National Nights.
Lakey is no stranger to the Hit Network, starting his radio career as a casual announcer on the Gold Coast’s 90.9 Sea FM. He has had stints at Perth’s Mix94.5 (then Hit92.9) and Hit Central Queensland before moving to national program slots for Hit’s mid-dawns then Hit National Late Nights.
Excited for the new challenge, Danny says, “After a dream run of not needing to wake up until 10am, it’s time to put on my breakfast radio pants on again.
“I’m so excited to get stuck into 2022 with Maz, the whole Hit NSW Breakfast team and most importantly, the listeners. Finally, there will be no more sneaking around the Triple M office pretending that I don’t cry to Adele songs in my spare time… bring on next year!”
Maz says, “In keeping with my contractual obligation to only ever work with co-hosts named Dan, I am over the moon to team up with Danny Lakey for breakfast in 2022.
“Lakey is wild and wonderful, I can’t wait to wake up all of NSW with such a character. He brings to breakfast radio a wealth of experience and, I have no doubt, some insane ideas. Bring on 2022!”
SCA Head of Content – Regional, Blair Woodcock, says, “We’re so excited to welcome Danny back to the Hit Network, he’s funny, super creative and unpredictable. Danny has done some brilliant work on Triple M Nights, and we are thrilled to have him promoted to the Breakfast show for Hit NSW. To have him on the air every morning with Maz is going to be amazing.
“There is a very talented team behind this show who will create something fresh and electrifying for all of regional NSW to wake up to. Personally, I can’t wait for the fun and laughs to start in mid-January!”
