Day for Daniel

When 13-year-old schoolboy Daniel Morcombe disappeared on December 7th in 2003 a new emphasis was placed on the safety of children. As the school year is almost over on the Sunshine Coast, Daniel’s mother, Denise Morcombe, is striving to keep this message alive.

Today has been named “Day For Daniel” and is aimed at creating safety awareness before children break up for the Christmas holidays. Wristbands, tattoos and stickers are available from participating businesses to promote the day with all proceeds going to the Morcombe Foundation.

Denise Morcombe has told Radioinfo: “We are certainly getting the awareness out there and I know it will help other children be more vigilant. We would have about 200 businesses and schools that we know of helping us from Melbourne to Mackay.”

92.7 Mix FM are broadcasting live from Sienna Catholic College, Daniel’s high school, to help support the day. Denise Morcombe will also attend to speak about the importance of child safety during this crucial time of year.
