THE family of radio star Stan Zemanek have said goodbye to him knowing that his death is not far away.

Marcella Zemaneck yesterday revealed to the Herald Sun the truth that Zemanek’s life is mere days away from the end.

“Unfortunately, there is no recovery from this.”

“He’s in palliative care. He’s at home. It’s a day by day situation now — that’s what it is.”

The Stan Zemanek that Sydney talkback listeners once loved to hate is now unrecognisable.

The brain tumour, which was discovered in May last year, has been one of the most aggressive forms.

He is being cared for by a nurse and family are by his bedside around the clock.

2UE staff are preparing to lose an industry heavyweight and friend.

Program director Greg Byrnes spoke of the dire situation:

“I don’t think his listeners realise how sick he is – it’s going to be tough.”
