Harvey Community Radio 96.5fm have been awarded a $41,300 Development & Operations Grant in Round 2 of the Community Broadcasting Foundation (CBF) funding program which will replace their existing antenna for a new and taller one, along with with upgraded broadcast equipment improving the strength and clarity of their signal. The station is also now represented by Spots & Space for advertising and sponsorship sales.
Back in 2004 the Western Australian Harvey community held a competition to choose what Harvey Community Radio’s first-ever broadcast track would be. It was the below:
From that very first song and broadcast, Harvey Community Radio 96.5fm has been shaped by the people it serves, including the Sounds like Harvey project which keeps recording and sharing the stories of residents in the Your Stories, Our Community series. This year’s Women in the Workforce project celebrated the talents, contributions and leadership of local women from Harvey and surrounding areas.
Harvey Community Radio 96.5fm’s Station Manager Ian Taylor said:
“We’ve worked hard to be the radio station our community wants to listen to. It was a proud moment when HCR 96.5fm were recognised for the Excellence in Community Engagement Award at the 2020 Community Broadcasting Awards.
Through our on-air programming, our outside broadcasts and the support of local businesses, we are Harvey through and through.”
Harvey is 140 kilometres south of Perth and is surrounded by orange orchards and dairy farms that support iconic local producers including Harvey Fresh, Harvey Beef and Harvey Cheese. The town is home to a large agricultural college and hosts a major annual agricultural show, The Harvey Harvest Festival.
