Dubbo Survey won by 2DU with STAR FM rocketing ahead in share

Dubbo’s ratings survey has just been released, with 2DU topping the market on 35.9%, followed by StarFM, ZOO FM then ABC Western Plains.

Caralis Supernetwork stations 2DU and ZOO FM both dropped, while Macquarie Regional Radio Works owned Star FM increased its market share this survey, the first for over two years.

Star FM jumped to 25.7%, up from 18.1 share points since last survey, which was conducted soon after the station’s launch. Star was dominant in all the young demographics between 10 and 39. Star won the drive and evening shifts.

Macquarie Regional Radioworks Group PD Rod Brice has told radioinfo: “We couldn’t be happier with the result as Dubbo now knows ‘Rod and the Flack are back’ in breakfast and after just 6 weeks have made a real impact
in the Dubbo region.

My congratulations go to the local on-air team,
management and promotions staff for the passion they show in the product and
the market, it’s a well deserved result.

This confirms STAR as the dominant under 55 station in the full service area and more importantly nailing their target 18-39.”

2DU won the 40+ demographics convincingly to record an overall share in first place of 35.9%, which was down by 6.9 share points on last survey. The station remains dominant in Peter Leslie’s breakfast shift, nearly double the nearest rival Star FM’s breakfast share. 2DU also won mornings, afternoons and weekends.

2DU PD Jon Crosby has told radioinfo: “Once again 2DU is thrilled that’s it’s maintained it’s premier position. 2DU is number one yet again, which is wonderful news. The result is a reflection of 2DU’s commitment to being live and local in the Dubbo market. In the highly competitive Dubbo radio market, considering the size of the market – which is probably Australia’s smallest competitive radio market – listeners appreciate the fact that we remain local and live!”

Supernetwork’s other station, ZOO FM, dropped by 2.3 share points to 12.9% after some format changes, which saw it shed audience in all daytime shifts, but gain listeners at breakfast.

ABC Western Plains gained 0.9 share points to 10.3%.

Other stations surveyed in parts of the listening area recorded the following shares:

2PK 0.3%, Easy 1089 0.3%, 2GZ FM 1.3%, RokFM 0.4%, Star Orange 0.6%, Radio National 3.0%, Triple J 0.7%, Classic FM 1.2% and other local ABC 1.5%.

Stations such as 2WEB Bourke and other non surveyed stations recorded a total of about 6%.
