Enter now for two media awards: OPSO and Realise your Dream

Entries are open again for two major awards. The OPSO Media Awards and the British Council’s Realise Your Dream are both now accepting media entries. Radio entries have done well in past years.

OPSO AWARDS

The OPSO media awards are for excellence in showing seniors for what they are,  a fast growing, active and contributing part of the community. To celebrate the 18th year of the awards, OPSO is offering five more $2,000 prizes in addition to the usual awards. Winners will be flown to Brisbane for the Media Awards Presentation night in October.

The OPSO Media Awards are judged by a combination of members of OPSO who understand older people and who work continually with their issues, journalists and journalists who are also journalism educators. The Awards go to those who, with excellence, best illustrate positive ageing.

Nomination forms and all details are on the OPSO webpage at www.opso.com.au

REALISE YOUR DREAM

The finest creative talents of Australia have one week left to enter the Realise Your Dream program for the opportunity to win one of five awards to grow their creative skills in the UK.  Whether you are a radio broadcaster, writer, or performing artist, or your passion lies in music, architecture, or even digital media, then The British Council wants to hear from you.

Entries for the awards close on 4 July 2011, and applicants should visit www.realiseyourdream.org.au to enter.

Now in its ninth year, the Realise Your Dream programme offers talented Australian creatives the chance to be part of a professional development programme based in the UK.

To date, 40 awardees have travelled to the UK with Realise Your Dream, many of whom attribute their continued successes in the creative industries to the learning and connections made whilst on the program.

British Council Director Nick Marchand said:

“The British Council helps open doors to the experiences winners most need to develop both professionally and creatively, whilst enabling them to making lasting UK connections that will inform their work for years to come. Last year, more than 600 Australians applied to be part of the programme. In 2011 we are hoping to push this even further and make sure the very best of Australian talent is offered the opportunity to apply.“

The award includes an $8,000 NAB Cash Passport to cover expenses, return airfares with Virgin Atlantic, and a personally tailored itinerary of meetings, placements, and mentoring with industry leaders. Winners of the awards will also become connected with Britain’s world renowned creative talent, and industry leaders, presenting an opportunity for the winners to expand their careers in Australia and internationally.
