Fairfax Radio Network to launch major cricket advertising campaign

Fairfax Radio Network will launch a major advertising campaign to support its summer cricket coverage this week, targeting the nation’s legion of cricket fans.

The campaign, developed by Whybin\TBWA Sydney, will feature a heavyweight schedule across newspapers, online, mobile, magazines and social media and will run until the end of the KFC Big Bash League season in February 2014.

The ads will highlight Fairfax Radio Network’s stations carrying the cricket coverage including Sydney’s 2UE, Melbourne’s 3AW, Brisbane’s 4BC and Perth’s 6PR.

“This will be a major campaign for the Fairfax Radio Network as we look to build audience for our cricket debut this summer,” Fairfax Radio Network National Content Director Clark Forbes said.

“It will be the first time a commercial broadcaster is calling the majority of the cricket and we want to ensure cricket fans know about our great summer cricket coverage across the network. Our incredible commentator line-up includes legends such as Ian Chappell, Dean Jones, Greg Blewett, Damien Fleming and Greg Matthews, among other cricket greats. We are gearing up for a hot summer of cricket.”

The campaign will appear in print editions of The Sydney Morning Herald, Sun Herald, The Age, The Sunday Age and The Australian Financial Review; the online and mobile sites of the SMH, Age, Brisbane Times and WA Today; Inside Cricket and Inside Sport magazines and the Fairfax Radio Network online and mobile sites. There will also be a Twitter page, @CricketTalkback.

This year Fairfax Radio Network will broadcast ball-by-ball coverage of the Melbourne and Sydney Tests in the Commonwealth Bank Ashes Series. The network’s sports journalists are presenting comprehensive updates throughout play in the Adelaide Test. In addition, Fairfax Radio Network will provide ball-by-ball coverage of the five International Carlton Mid One Day fixtures, the three KFC T20 INTL matches and all local KFC Big Bash League matches.

All Fairfax Radio Network’s cricket coverage will also be live streamed and free of charge on Cricket Australia Live: The Official App and on www.cricket.com.au.

Last month, Fairfax Radio Network announced that it had secured the broadcast rights for the 2013/14 to 2017/18 Australian cricket seasons that will deliver the most comprehensive radio broadcast coverage of live cricket in Australia.

Under the agreement, Fairfax Radio Network will broadcast international matches across 2UE Sydney, 3AW Melbourne, 4BC Brisbane and 6PR Perth, reaching an audience of more than 1 million people.
