John B Fairfax and his brother, Tim, have acquired five million preference shares in Rural Press – with a value of $49 million.

This follows a director’s interest notice from the pair, giving them about 30% of preferred stock and 54% of ordinary shares.

On the back of the stockmarket slump, Rural Press shares have lost 13% in three months, closing yesterday at $9.32.
