Merrick and Dools hosted their last Nova breakfast show this morning, with plenty of tributes flowing to Merrick Watts’ for his ten years on air with Nova. Merrick and Rosso were the original breakfast team and past co-hosts Rosso and Kate Ritchie dropped in to the show to say farewell
Listeners called in during the show and hit the station’s facebook page to add their farewells. Rival network presenter Hamish Blake, on the phone from New York during his Gap Year, told Merrick that listening to Merrick and Rosso on Triple J had inspired Hamish and Andy to get into radio.
Dools left his colleague in the studio alone at 9.15am for a final farewell to his audience. Watts played the You Am I song Good Morning, then thanked people who had helped him over the years, including former producers and PDs, especially Dean Buchanan. He also paid tribute to DMG Radio Australia’s founder Paul Thompson saying, “you took an irresponsible boy and turned him into an irresponsible man…I will never be able to repay the debt.”
While DMG has said Merrick is still “part of the Nova family,” he is not expected to be heard on air in any regular shift. See some of the final show below.
On Nova Brisbane, breakfast team Meshel, Tim and Marty also said their farewells to the local audience. They will now be heard nationally on Nova’s drive show in a couple of weeks.
