The first smooth sounds of Smooth

Just after 7 am breakfast host Ed Phillips and Michael Buble, from his studio in L.A., set the station on track for its fourth shot at glory since the birth of Vega on August 1, 2005.

At 7 o’clock this morning, dmg Radio Australia celebrated the launch the new radio station’s smoothfm 91.5 and smoothfm 95.3 by throwing champagne breakfast in Melbourne and Sydney for staff, clients, record company reps and guests.

in Melbourne (bottom pic) the celebrations were led by CEO Cathy O’Connor, (centre) General Manager Helen Davies, Illyria’s Siobhan McKenna and smoothfm Program Director Rohan Brown, joined by announcers David Reyne, Ty Frost, Mark Robinson and Cathy Dinn. While Mike Perso hosted smoothfm’s breakfast show.

In Sydney (top pic) it was Group Marketing Director Tony Thomas, General Manager Tim McDermott, Group Program Director Paul Jackson and dmg Radio’s Chairman Lachlan Murdoch.

 

Songs played in the first few hours after the station relaunch included: Michael Buble’s I Just Haven’t Met You Yet, three Bee Gees songs in tribute to Robin Gibb and Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline.  Other artists played included Amy Winehouse, The Foundations, Seal, The Carpenters, James Morrison, The Monkees, The Beatles, ABBA and Cat Stevens.
