Fitzy and Wippa for Nova Sydney breakfast

Fitzy and Wippa will move from their national drive show to replace Merrick and Dools on Nova 96.9’s Sydney breakfast show. Fitzy and Wippa will still be heard nationally in a one hour timeslot from 6-7pm across the Nova Network. Replacing Fitzy and Wippa in the national drive timeslot from 4-6pm will be Meshel, Tim and Marty, formerly Nova 106.9 Brisbane’s breakfast team.

Fitzy & Wippa’s recent ‘Bob Katter-pult’ broke a world record for the furthest distance travelled by a catapulted car, and their faux Tasmanian radio show ‘Renegade and the Bunyip’ has seen the duo get the better of Matt Preston, Karl Stefanovic and ‘Packed to the Rafters’ star George Houvardas. Their work place pranks  LINK , serenades and send ups have also had their listeners in stitches.

Fitzy & Wippa have also been nominated for an Australian Commercial Radio Award (ACRA) for ‘Best On Air Team’ after six months together on air. They say they are so pumped about the new show that they “have decided to celebrate with Labor MP Craig Thompson’ credit card.”

The new drive team, Meshel, Tim (left) and Marty (right) are currently heard on Nova Brisbane breakfast.

Meshel Laurie is a comedian and television personality with an extensive radio career. No stranger to Nova audiences, Meshel joined Nova Brisbane’s breakfast show in 2005 at the station’s launch, is a regular with Fitzy and  Wippa in Drive and Nova Sydney’s breakfast show and cohosted Nova’s national breakfast show during the June 2010 survey break. With over 14 years experience as a stand-up comedian, Meshel is a regular on television and currently co-hosts Network Ten’s Can of Worms.

Tim Blackwell joined the Nova Network in 2001 in Melbourne. In 2002 he moved to Nova 937 Perth and shortly after took over Drive on Nova 969 Sydney. From 2006 Tim anchored Nova 100 Melbourne’s Hughesy and Kate for two years before moving into nights to co-host Launchpad. Tim joined Meshel Laurie on Nova 106.9 Brisbane’s breakfast show in 2009 and also appears on Network Ten’s The 7pm Project.

Marty Sheargold has a Breakfast and national Drive show radio career spanning over 18 years. In 2010 Marty joined Meshel and Tim on Nova 106.9 Brisbane’s breakfast show. A popular comedian, Marty has also appeared in numerous television comedy productions and starred in several Australian movies.

Dmg’s Group Program Director Paul Jackson says Meshel, Tim and  Marty are “strong broadcasters in their own right and a formidable on air team. We’re really excited that Australia now has the opportunity to hear them nationally on the Nova Network.”

Fitzy and  Wippa will continue in Drive until 2 September and will be taking a break before moving into breakfast on Nova 969 Sydney. Meshel, Tim and  Marty will be heard weekdays in Drive 4-6pm from September. Merrick and Dools will finish up on breakfast at the end of next week, but no on air role for them has yet been revealed.

Camilla, who recently came off air at B105 Brisbane and announced she would be leaving Austereo when her contract is up, is expected to be part of the new Nova Brisbane team.
