Fitzy & Wippa hit number one on YouTube

Google has released its Australian YouTube Viral Ad Mid-Year Zeitgeist, a list of this year’s biggest ads to date on YouTube in Australia. Top of the list is Nova 969’s Fitzy & Wippa with their parody of Carly Rae Jepsen’s viral sensation “Call Me Maybe.” The breakfast team’s video has attracted more than 1.6 million views to date. With any luck, some of those viewers will turn into listeners.

The Nova video beat out a promo for the movie Contraband and an established favourite, Sam Kekovich’s Australia Day push for lamb.

In the bigger picture, the list demonstrates the growth of the viral advertising market – the release of lists like this helping to bring it into the mainstream.
