Angry mob lets fly on facebook after Bay-FM Geelong lets Peter Mobbs go

Just as Steve Ahern was putting the finishing touches on his in-depth article about the danger of making personal issues public through Social Media, yet another incident, this time on Facebook, has erupted. Long serving announcer at K-Rock/Bay FM Geelong Peter Mobbs has initiated an attack on his former boss at the Grant Broadcasters owned stations after being dismissed last week with 15 years of service under his belt.

Among other posts on his page, Mobbs wrote: just been made redundant after nearly 16 years on GTown radio. Thanks for tuning in freaks. Just wish the fat f**ck in the suit did it earlier in the week while the surf was pumping.”

Loyal Mobbs fans, many who had followed him from K-Rock when he was transferred to Bay-FM in 2010, ‘mobbed’ the Bay-FM Facebook page demanding he be reinstated.

Leasa Boyd writes: I switched from K-Rock when Mobbsy got transferred and now only tune into Bay FM in his time slot …..NOW, u guys can listen to yourself chat away…..uve let an icon go , hope our so called “local station” now suffers the incompetent decision…. Shame , word travels fast in Geelong and so do bitter feelings ….good luck with your ratings.”

But the stations’ General Manger, Dean Anglin was prepared to face the music by posting his own statement – albeit with somewhat less colourful language. He tried to explain that it was a necessary decision that cannot be reversed: “During the 2010 review we were proud to be able to make all of our planned changes without any job losses.

“Unfortunately the world of 2012 is very different to that of 2010 and during our review this year it was decided to reduce the total number of full time announcers on BayFM by one,” said Mr Anglin.

Understandably, Mobbs, buoyed by the rush of support, was not impressed, writing on his own page: thanks to my friends i will walk with my head held high and my middle finger held higher.
