Former Victorian Premier to host talkback show

Former Victorian Premier, Denis Napthine, is set to host a current affairs and talk back program for the ACE Radio Network.

The Great South Coast Today will air on 882 3YB each Friday between midday and 1pm, covering a range of issues topical to South West Victoria.

Dr. Napthine was a Liberal Party Member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly, representing the electoral district of Portland for 14 years before becoming the member for South West Coast, a seat he held from 2002 till 2015. He was sworn in as the 47th Premier of Victoria in 2013 and retired from politics last year.

3YB General Manager, Peter Headen, says the vital role Dr. Napthine played in the community for many years makes him an ideal presenter for the program.

“Issues and stories from our local region are often spoken about on a state and national level – things like the dairy industry crisis, the uncertain future of our Deakin University campus and the recent opening of a $30 million cancer care facility in Warrnambool,” Headen says. ”It’s important for people to be able to become more informed about important stories here at home, as well as have the opportunity to voice their opinions. The Great South Coast Today will offer a great platform to achieve that and with Denis Napthine hosting, I’m sure the show will be very well received.”

The first Great South Coast Today program airs on 882 3YB from midday on Friday August 5th and Dr. Napthine says he is looking forward to getting into the studio. “I’m really excited to be joining the 3YB team with a show that talks about our region, our communities and our people.”
