Veteran broadcaster John Laws went to air yesterday minus one regular tool…his golden microphone.

Police are treating as suspicious the disappearance from his office of the $10,000 nine carat gold microphone presented to Laws in 2003 as a gift from 2UE management for his 50th year on the airwaves.

The Golden Microphone is a one-off German Sennheiser, serial number JL 0001.

In the interim Laws has been using another golden microphone, given to him for his 40th anniversary, Laws is understandably shocked by the brazen theft of his prized instrument telling the Daily Telegraph:

“I’m very upset about it. It’s been part of my life”

Laws pleaded with the thief to return the microphone anonymously, saying he would not press charges if they did.
