Graham Cron has retired from the radio industry to be replaced by Michael Jones, as the General Manager of Radio Canberra’s two stations 2CC and 2CA. Jones will commence in Canberra on Monday 6th December, with a hand-over period lasting a week.
Cron thanked the Cameron family and Kevin Blyton, as well as his past and present colleagues for their support during his career. The former Hot100 and Mix Darwin manager began in sales at 2WS in 1978, and ended up working for the Camerons in various Grant Broadcasting stations for 24 of the past 32 years.
He believes the future for 2CA and 2CC is “excellent”, and the “gradual, but inevitable” shift to digital radio will guarantee such success. “As long as the radio industry remains as local as possible, it will survive against all the invasive technologies that threaten to take a share of our audience”, Cron told radioinfo.
“I have had an amazing work experience over the past 32 years. I have enjoyed seeing some of the people who worked for and with me achieve great results in the industry. I have made a mountain of life long friends all over Australia both with people I worked with and clients that became best mates.”
Michael Jones has over 20 years of radio experience, including station management in Australia, New Zealand and Canada. He has worked at 6NR and 6iX in Perth, 2NUR in Newcastle, QFM in Queenstown and Heart FM in South-West Ontario.
Jones will work with the team in Canberra to deliver strategies for 2CA, 2CC, My Canberra Digital and Hot Country Canberra. “I am thrilled to be leading a fantastic team in the delivery of great radio to the people of Canberra, and to work with Canberra’s business community on the growth of their enterprises”, he commented.
