Big changes planned for 2UE in 2011: updated

Big changes are in progress at Sydney talk station 2UE. Breakfast duo John Stanley and Sandi Aloisi will not be on breakfast next year, Steve Leibmann has resigned and other possible changes are listed below. Sandi Aloisi has told radioinfo: “2UE has asked me to stay on in another capacity, but I’m going to the US with my family for a holiday so I will decide on that or anything else when I return.” PD Peter Brennan has told radioinfo today he cannot say much at this time, but has confirmed there are changes in progress. He was keen to point out that existing staff should not be unsettled by the changes and that there is a place for everyone if they want it as part of the “exciting” things planned for 2011.

Brennan could not confirm or deny some of the things we published here on radioinfo, but was able to give away a few hints on others. “We’ve got a few things planned, but I’m not in a position to say much about them at this time. I will let radioinfo readers know about the changes when I can.”

So what are his comments on the specifics we have published so far:

  • John Stanley moving to another shift, perhaps afternoons, replacing Tim Webster.

  • The Two Murrays moving off drive to make way for another Murray, Paul Murray, in that shift. One or two of the Two Murrays may move back to their old night shift.

Brennan says: “The THREE murrays are all great talent.”

  • Jason Morrison being poached from 2GB to do 2UE breakfast next year up against Alan Jones.

There was a moment of silence when this question was put and Brennan had no comment to make.

  • Ray Hadley’s producer Sophie Onikul being poached from 2GB to produce 2UE breakfast or drive. A radioinfo source reports that when Onikul resigned on Friday a not-too-happy Hadley asked for her to be escorted immediately from the building, and then grabbed Chris Smith’s executive producer Michael Thompson to work on the Hadley shift in the interim while a new producer is found.

radioinfo will keep you up to date on this breaking story as official word comes through of any other confirmed changes as the station reinvents and repositions itself to more agressively take on its main competitor, market leader 2GB, in 2011.
