The Grill Team pays tribute to The King for ‘Eat Like Elvis’ day

Triple M’s The Grill Breakfast Show has celebrated ‘Eat Like Elvis’ day early, scoffing down The King’s favourite deep-fried sandwich – white bread, peanut butter, banana and crispy bacon. Yum…

Mark Geyer, Matty Johns and Gus Worland teamed up with The Roundabout Cafe & Restaurant in Padstow this morning and managed to sell over 1000 of the ‘Elvis sandwich’ to hungry listeners.

Tomorrow is the 37th anniversary of Elvis’ death and everyone seemed keen to share in The King’s unusual taste in food. Crowds queued up outside the door from 6am waiting for Mark Geyer – who dressed as Elvis – to hand them a greasy sandwich.

The Grill Team interviewed Nick Andurlakis, the man who used to whip up these sandwiches for Elvis. In a call to his cafe in Denver in the US, Andurlakis told the boys how he personally waited on The King and served him the sandwich numerous time. He called it a ‘Fool’s Gold Loaf’.

They even served one up to singer and X Factor judge Ronan Keating earlier in the week, who thought it was delicious.

Check out all the action here. It sure looks like a fun and filling morning.
