Hall of Fame honour for Tamworth radio legend Ray McCoy

Radio 88.9/99.5 FM Drive host Ray McCoy has been inducted into the Australian Country Music Broadcasters’ Hall of Fame during the 53rd Tamworth Country Music Festival.

The Broadcasters’ Hall of Fame recognises and celebrates broadcasters, both past and present, who’ve made a significant impact on the growth and promotion of Australian country music.

Ray joins a distinguished group of previous inductees, which includes John Laws, Reg Lindsay, Smoky Dawson, Carter Edwards and 88.9/99.5 Breakfast host Brian ‘Howdy’ Howard.

Ray has been a passionate advocate for country music, helping it gain a place in the mainstream Australian music charts.

Alongside Emma Bailey, he produces and hosts The Hottest Australian Country Hits and the American Country Music Countdown. Ray and Emma will also be hosting the station’s coverage of the Red Carpet arrivals and the broadcast of tomorrow’s Golden Guitar Awards.

Ray said he was surprised and honoured to receive the award.

George Frame, the stations’ CEO said:

“Ray, you have carried the torch of country music as we have seen it progress today into the mainstream of music in this country. Well, done mate.”
