Hamish and Andy knighted by musical royalty

Austereo’s Hamish & Andy have finished their big last week of broadcasting live from each of Australia’s capital cities by being knighted, by Bono. They began their tour in Perth, then on stage in the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens completing their five live shows across five capital cities today in home town Melbourne, where U2 played live at the broadcast.

Crowds in each city flocked to be part of the OBs. At Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl in front of thousands of fans, U2 rocked the stage with their world famous hits Desire and Vertigo.

“The last time we spoke to you guys was on the phone in France, to actually meet you in the flesh… a bit too much flesh…” The Edge said.

Bono ‘knighted’ Hamish and Andy just for fun, John Farnham brought the house down with the unofficial anthem You’re the Voice, and Darryl Braithwaite also performed. Hamish got ‘tomatoed’ by fans as the shows final Fred Bassett moment for the year.

Hamish and Andy return to the Today Network airwaves in 2011 for Friday drive (4-6pm) to continue their infamous Pants off Friday show. Fifi Box and Jules Lund will be heard in that shift on the other days of the week.

In Hamish’s words:  “It’s far from over.” The Thank You Tour was Hamish & Andy’s way to say thank you to their listeners for being part of the five day a week “people’s” show for the past five years. In addition to the Tour, the pair launched their second CD of their finest moments,  entitled Celebrating 50 Glorious Years.
