Hit105 has a new Black Thunder pilot

Cody ‘The Code’ Shaeffer hits the streets in Brisbane.

After 25 years off the road, HIT105 have returned the Black Thunders to the streets of Brisbane with the 4X4s set to again deliver prizes, celebrities and cold cans of Coke to listeners.

After a fierce audition process, HIT105’s Stav, Abby and Matt have announced the new Black Thunder pilot is Cody ‘The Code’ Schaeffer, as voted by listeners.

The 24-year-old Goondiwindi-lad-turned-Fortitude Valley-local has landed in the driver’s seat of the hotly contested Brisbane gig, after a series of auditions that included Tough Mudder at Woodford and interviewing Karen Jacobsen, the voice of GPS around the world and the Australian Siri.

Cody’s next challenge was to collect as much free stuff as possible and get it back to the Hit105 studio within 18 hours.

“So, I trawled around Brisbane. I gathered the usual food vouchers and freebies, but I realised I needed to go big, really big! So, I had a spanking new Mercedes Benz delivered to Hit105’s studio door!” said Cody.

The final challenge was the RnB Battle on Friday – HIT105 is famous for playing the very best RnB every Friday, so Cody hired a whole dance crew and changed the lines of the song “Survivor” by Destiny’s Child.

“As soon as I was announced as the new Black Thunder pilot I was straight into the driver’s seat and out to Milton and then to the Broncos in Red Hill. What a dream job!”

Cody previously held down jobs from pizza delivery to newsmaker to running youth camps with Rotary, and applied for the gig because of his long-time love of radio.

“I’ve wanted to be on radio since I was 11 years of age. I grew up in Goondiwindi and there wasn’t a lot of variety in radio, so to amuse myself I used to make up my own radio shows in my bedroom on a cassette.

”I’d record my own BiLo commercials for a bit of fun. Driving Black Thunders, meeting the people of Brisbane and crossing back to Stav, Abby and Matt each morning – it’s the perfect storm for me!”
