Hobart stations support fire ravaged businesses

Two Hobart stations, Heart 107.3 and HO FM have been doing their bit for the businesses suffering after the huge fire that ravaged shops in Hobart’s CBD last week.

Heart 107.3’s Brett Marley has come up with an idea for Hobart to thank the Fire Fighters who risked their lives in one of the worst structural blazes in Hobart’s history. ‘Marls in the Morning’ has organised a huge thank you card which is being made up by the Xerox Shop, which he intends taking all over Hobart next week for the public to sign.

The card will then be presented to the Tasmanian Fire Service at a special thank you party being held next Saturday morning by Myer Hobart. Heart 107.3 will be broadcasting live from the event.

Brett Marley has told radioinfo: “This is something that ripped our city apart and the Emergency Services did a magnificent job protecting life and preventing further damage…this is a way to show our Fire Fighters in particular, how proud we are as a community!”

HO FM will also recognise the emergency services as part of the station’s ‘Roads to Recovery’ campaign.

HO-FM and Village Cinemas have joined to thank the Hobart Fire Service and Police Force, Ambulance Service and Emergency Workers for their outstanding efforts over the last ten days. Following suggestions from HO-FM listeners and affected retailers via HO-FM’s Road to Recovery Hotline HO-FM and Village have personally delivered complimentary family movie invitations to the families of those involved in assisting throughout the blaze.

The generous donation of air time and tickets to the movie ‘Surf’s Up’ is in recognition of “the incredible bravery of all involved in bringing the downtown blaze to an end,” according to HO-FM’s Marketing and Promotions Manager Sarah Bryan.

The ‘Surf’s Up’ private screening will be held on Sunday the 7th of October at the Hobart Village Cinemas.

Bryan has told radioinfo: “It’s HO-FM’s way of personally showing our listener’s appreciation for the bravery shown. There’s no more fitting way to thank those emergency workers involved than for them to enjoy a great, fun movie with their family.”

HO-FM’s ‘Road to Recovery’ was established to instantly assist all businesses and retailers involved with the fire. The Hotline continues to provide vital information to be broadcast instantly to inform the staff and public of store opening hours as retailers begin to re-open following the fire.

As reported on radioinfo last week, the HO-FM team broadcast live from Les Lees clothing store last Wednesday morning to support the re-opening of the retail stores. Richard Moore was inundated with staff from the stores affected who wanted to have their message to air informing the public that they are now open and trading again.

The devastating fire wiped out parts of the Myer city centre store and resulted in fire and smoke damage to other retail operators in the area.
