Hobart’s radio king retires

7HO’s Richard Moore is hanging up the headphones after 42 years on Hobart radio. Last shift on April Fools Day.

Moore has prided himself on being Hobart through and through, with many unforgettable moments, including shaking hands with Royalty (see our earlier story), but for Richard his biggest career achievements have come from his work with the community, in particular the recent Bushfire disaster in Tasmania.

He made up half of the legendary Cooke & Moore Breakfast show that ruled Hobart’s airwaves for 22 years and at one time even boasted its own television show.

Working for 101.7 7HOFM has been like “playing for your favourite football team,” says Moore.

He is now looking forward to spending time with his wife Sylvia and their grandchildren, perhaps while supporting his beloved footy team, the Sydney Swans.

His retirement marks the end of an era for Richard and the departure of a Tassie icon for Hobart. His last day on air will be April 1st.
