i98’s Camp Quality Convoy tops a million

The final tally for i98FM’s Camp Quality Convoy has been announced by breakfast hosts Marty Haynes and Bianca Dye. The Convoy held last Sunday raised an astounding total of $1,009,735 for Camp Quality Illawarra.

Now in its 8th year, the event saw a record breaking 764 trucks and 926 motorbikes travel a distance of 70 kilometres from Illawarra Coal’s West Cliff Colliery at Appin, through the streets of the Illawarra, to finish up at the Croome Road Sporting Complex in Albion Park Rail.

The i98FM Camp Quality Convoy is open to all Truckies and Motorbike enthusiasts who register to take part for a $30 donation. The opportunity to take the coveted spot as the Lead Truck of the Convoy was fought out live to air with Marty and Bianca.

Local trucking company MJ Rowles won the top spot with an amazing $110,000 donation. Park Petroleum was second in the Convoy with their very generous $105,000 donation, followed by Ross Transport who pledged $89,000 and McMahon’s Transport who donated $86,000 with the People’s Truck.

martybianca_198The $701,000 raised from the lead truck auction alone meant that last year’s final tally of $691,000 had already been surpassed before an engine had started for this year’s event. The figure announced this morning now means that more that $3,193,000 has been raised for Camp Quality since the inaugural event in 2005.

WIN Radio General Manager, Jason Saladino said We are truly overwhelmed by the support this event continues to generate. From the generous support of the trucking community all the way through to the thousands of people who lined the streets and attended the fun day at Croome Road. The Illawarra is an amazing place and the difference this money makes to the lives of local children and families battling cancer is very real. We can’t thank the community enough.”

All funds raised go directly to Camp Quality Illawarra who brighten the lives of kids with cancer by bringing hope and happiness to them and their families.

The Convoy fun day saw Delta Goodrem perform along with Rachael Leahcar and Ben Hazlewood from ‘The Voice’ to a crowd in excess of 8,000 people.
